Hao (Henry) Fang

I am a fourth-year PhD candidate at Simon Fraser University, supervised by Prof. Jiangchuan Liu. My research focuses on satellite communications, networking, and multimedia systems, with an emphasis on reliable and sustainable data delivery in remote environments.

I am also an AI and Systems Researcher with Salmon Vision, a collaborative initiative applying AI to salmon monitoring and conservation. My recent work combines satellite connectivity, edge computing, and video and sonar analytics to support monitoring at remote river sites. In collaboration with First Nations, local communities, and conservation practitioners, the project develops tools for automated salmon counting and species identification. These tools provide timely population data to guide conservation decisions and sustainable fisheries management, helping protect wild salmon and the ecosystems and communities they sustain.
